    Molecular Detection of Circulating Tumor Cells With Multiple mRNA Markers by Genechip for Colorectal Cancer Early Diagnosis and Prognosis Prediction

    Early detection is the hallmark of successful cancer treatment. Evidence is accumulating that primary cancers begin shedding neoplastic cells into the circulation at an early stage. To date, many different methodologies have been used for the detection of circulating tumor cells (CTCs) with variable sensitivity and specificity. In many studies, including patients with different clinical stages of colorectal cancer, the detection of CTCs in early and/or metastatic colorectal cancer has been shown to correlate with unfavorable clinical outcome. However, a high-sensitivity and high-throughput method for the detection of CTCs is currently lacking. Here, we introduce a high-sensitivity genechip analysis method from a colorimetric membrane array to a weighted enzymatic chip array in order to detect the CTC-related multiple mRNA markers derived from colorectal cancer patients as a convenient and practical tool for early diagnosis and prognosis prediction

    A Study of Mazuism Religious Tourism in Taiwan: an Example of Dajia Jenn Lann Temple

    Although the study of Mazuism has been popular among scholars, few have attempted to touch upon its religious tourist behaviour; however, as the purpose of their travel is to worship at the Mazu Temple, it is thus, a tourism destination. Therefore, from the perspective of religious sustainable operation, it is important to understand the tourist behavior patterns of religious tourists visiting Mazu Temple. The purpose of this study is to analyze the interrelationships between destination image, service quality, perceived value, satisfaction, and behavioural intention. This study is conducted with convenience sampling methods for tourists visiting Jenn Lann Temple in Dajia, Taichung, Taiwan, and a total of 408 valid questionnaires are obtained. The valid questionnaires collected in this study are statistically analysed using descriptive statistics and PLS. The results show that destination image, service quality, perceived value, and satisfaction have positive impacts on tourists’ behavioural intention. According to the results of the above analysis, this study constructs a religious tourism behaviour model of Mazu believers and gives management advice to the Mazu Temple

    Power Allocation and Time-Domain Artificial Noise Design for Wiretap OFDM with Discrete Inputs

    Optimal power allocation for orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) wiretap channels with Gaussian channel inputs has already been studied in some previous works from an information theoretical viewpoint. However, these results are not sufficient for practical system design. One reason is that discrete channel inputs, such as quadrature amplitude modulation (QAM) signals, instead of Gaussian channel inputs, are deployed in current practical wireless systems to maintain moderate peak transmission power and receiver complexity. In this paper, we investigate the power allocation and artificial noise design for OFDM wiretap channels with discrete channel inputs. We first prove that the secrecy rate function for discrete channel inputs is nonconcave with respect to the transmission power. To resolve the corresponding nonconvex secrecy rate maximization problem, we develop a low-complexity power allocation algorithm, which yields a duality gap diminishing in the order of O(1/\sqrt{N}), where N is the number of subcarriers of OFDM. We then show that independent frequency-domain artificial noise cannot improve the secrecy rate of single-antenna wiretap channels. Towards this end, we propose a novel time-domain artificial noise design which exploits temporal degrees of freedom provided by the cyclic prefix of OFDM systems {to jam the eavesdropper and boost the secrecy rate even with a single antenna at the transmitter}. In the crystal, inversion-related mol­ecules are linked by pairs of weak C—H⋯O hydrogen bonds, forming dimers with an R 2 2(16) graph-set motif.     Ring Chromosome 7 Presenting with Intrauterine Growth Restriction and Multiple Anomalies

    SummaryObjectiveRing chromosome 7 is a very rare chromosomal anomaly that may have a grave prognosis. Nevertheless, the clinical features associated with ring chromosome 7 are highly variable. Here, we report a case with ring chromosome 7 and the perinatal findings.Case ReportA 32-year-old, gravida 1, para 0, woman was referred to our hospital because of intrauterine growth restriction (IUGR) and oligohydramnios at 35 weeks of gestation. Prenatal ultrasound revealed a severe IUGR fetus presenting with multicystic kidney, hydronephrosis and oligohydramnios. At parturition, the birth weight of this male infant was 1,720 g, and a battery of anomalies were also noted, including imperforate anus, hypospadia, micropenis, right cryptorchidism, severe IUGR, multiple nevi on the forehead, shoulder and left thigh, brain atrophy, right multicystic kidney, and left mild hydronephrosis. Cytogenetic study from cord blood revealed a ring chromosome 7.ConclusionRing chromosome 7 is extremely rare and our case might be the 15th and youngest case in the medical literature. Our case had multicystic kidney and imperforate anus, which have not been reported previously. Prenatal diagnosis of ring chromosome 7 is very difficult. When fetuses present with severe IUGR, oligohydramnios and multicystic kidney, chromosomal aberrations should be kept in mind, and perinatal cytogenetic workup is warranted

    Comparison of the effects of tubular gastroesophageal anastomosis and traditional gastroesophageal supra-arch anastomosis on the postoperative lung function of patients with esophageal carcinoma

    Objective: This study aimed to investigate and compare the effects of tubular gastroesophageal anastomosis and traditional gastroesophageal supra-arch anastomosis on the postoperative lung function of patients with esophageal carcinoma. Methods: A total of 90 patients with middle-lower segmental esophageal cancer admitted in our hospital from August 2014 to August 2016 were recruited to our study. They were randomly divided into two groups. The observation group underwent tubular gastroesophageal anastomosis, whereas the control group underwent traditional gastroesophageal supra-arch anastomosis. Changes in the postoperative pulmonary function were compared between the two groups. Results: The numbers of CD4 cells (27.45 ± 5.48), CD8 cells (35.97 ± 7.16), and natural killer cells (20.79 ± 2.49), as well as the CH4/CD8 ratio (0.69 ± 0.18), of the patients in the observation group were significantly higher than the (38.45 ± 5.98), (20.45 ± 6.41), (39.44 ± 3.49), and (1.31 ± 0.48), respectively, of the patients in the control group. The differences between the two groups were statistically significant (P\u3c0.05). By contrast, the preoperative forced expiratory volume in 1 s (FEV1), forced vital capacity (FVC), and maximum voluntary ventilation (MVV) did not significantly differ between the two groups (P\u3e0.05). The FEV1 (1.76 ± 0.41 L), FVC (2.33 ± 0.32 L), and MVV (33.7 ± 5.2 L/min) of the observation group were significantly higher than those of the control group (P\u3c0.05). Meanwhile, the complication rate of the observation group was 42.2%, which was significantly lower than that of the control group (75.6%) (P\u3c0.05). Conclusion: Tubular gastroesophageal anastomosis can benefit patients with esophageal cancer by significantly reducing the adverse effects on their postoperative pulmonary function and control the occurrence of postoperative complications
